Courts Singapore taking up Robinsons’ former Heeren space

COURTS Singapore on Thursday revealed plans to open a new flagship store spanning six storeys of The Heeren’s retail podium.

Located along Orchard Road, the 189,000 square foot space was home to Robinsons department store before it closed its doors to shoppers for the last time on Dec 16.

In its statement, Courts, an electrical, IT and furniture retailer, said that this flagship store would be its largest retail space in Singapore when it opens by Q1 of 2022.

With this store, Courts’ Tokyo-listed parent company Nojima Corporation will make its first overseas foray into a large-format store concept in a central location of Singapore. (Courts’ Megastore in suburban Tampines has 136,000 sq ft of space, say news reports.)

Courts said it will introduce new retail concepts that are “bold, fresh and authentic” through this store; with this, it intends to deliver “Japanese standards of customer experience” as the outlet’s key differentiating factor.

Its expansion is a signal of its confidence in the continued evolution of the broader retail sector, it added.

Matthew Hoang, Courts Asia’s group chief operating officer and country chief executive of Courts Singapore, said: “We are looking forward to expanding our presence in Orchard Road,

“With our upcoming flagship store, we are excited to do our part for the overall retail sector by bringing back the energy and vibrancy of a delightful customer experience.”
